Wellness Lessons from 2022!
Each passing year leaves a trail of learning for us. 2022 was no different year for me. Apart from routine work and study, I stepped into clinical nutrition area where I am learning valuable lessons by observing patients in a medical environment.
Today I want to share my observations from my journey so far which relates to holistic health.
- Physical Health: I observed that a majority of people are still taking their health for granted. Many people I know (and see in hospital environment) are neither aware about their food habits nor invest in exercising. They only become serious about their health when they are forced to by illness.
- Mental Health: When I visit patients, I see many people who are also suffering from Mental health issues. It is important to SPEAK to someone about your problems/concerns, SHARE your problems with your family and friends and STAND UP for your concerns.
- Relationships: When you are facing emotional or mental anxiety, it is also important to surround yourself with people who are able to LISTEN to you, help you and hand hold you towards the solution.
- Being Calm: I learned how to stay calm and adopt healthy way of learning and most importantly, looking for sustainability in every process. For example, adopting lifestyle that is sustainable rather than going for fad diets etc.
- Exercise: Throughout 2022, I strived to maintain an active lifestyle through regular exercising. Exercise helps in maintaining physical health, vitality and also keeps me mentally fit. Healthy lifestyle requires constant learning and adapting.
- Traditional Food Wisdom: Just like each year, 2022 also saw many fad diets – however our traditional food wisdom combined with common sense and discipline is the only thing that still works.
- Passing the wisdom: Health is a team sport. For a healthy mind you also need to spend quality time with your family. I enjoyed every festive season with my family and friends in fun and traditional way. It is immensely helpful to educate our children about our ancient food wisdom and culture.
- Positive Outlook: Problems and challenges are a part of life. They have to be solved with a positive outlook and mindset. It is beneficial for your physical and mental health to actively manage stress, have a solution oriented mindset and be humble.
The journey of learning that I have started in past few years will continue further and I hope to share more such lessons and insights on diet, nutrition and holistic wellness in 2023.
I wish you all a wonderful 2023!
